Air-cooled crescent ice maker with fully automatic cleaning

The Hoshizaki KM-40C-HC-W is designed for professional operations requiring clear, solid ice for drink preparation, bottle chilling or fresh product displays. Producing up to 43 kg of crescent ice per 24 hours, the unit is suitable for bars, restaurants, hotels, cafés and smaller retail environments. Its integrated storage bin holds up to 16 kg of ice.

The individually formed crescent cubes have a curved, solid structure without an internal cavity. Each cube measures approximately 38 x 29 x 13 mm and has an average weight of 10 g. Their shape allows them to settle closely together in a glass, reduces splashing when drinks are filled and helps prevent clumping inside the storage bin. The cubes are suitable for long drinks and soft drinks as well as for chilling wine, sparkling wine and other bottled beverages.

The KM series uses Hoshizaki’s CycleSaver system with a double-sided stainless-steel vertical evaporator. Ice forms on both sides of the evaporator at the same time, increasing the amount produced during each cycle. The resulting reduction in harvest cycles limits non-productive operating phases and supports consistent production.

A closed water circuit limits the number of points at which impurities can enter the ice-making process. A regulated DC pump adjusts the water flow, while a float switch monitors the water level. Automatic and manual flushing functions refresh the water at defined intervals. After four hours of inactivity, the circuit is automatically cleaned and replenished with fresh water.

The W model also includes a fully automatic chemical cleaning function. Depending on operating requirements, the cleaning programme can be set to run at intervals between 400 and 1,000 production cycles. The cleaning agent required for this function is not included.

The externally positioned EverCheck control panel includes an audible alarm and self-diagnostic functions. This allows operating conditions to be monitored and helps service technicians identify potential faults.

The stainless-steel evaporator has no plated surface that could flake during descaling. The front-access air filter simplifies routine cleaning and allows the unit to be installed where side access is limited. Replaceable magnetic door gaskets support the cleaning of the integrated storage bin.

The KM-40C-HC-W uses an air-cooled refrigeration system and the natural refrigerant R290. Its self-contained design allows straightforward commissioning once the required water, drainage and electrical connections are installed. Four legs and an ice scoop are included. A water filtration system and a UV LED for the water tank are available separately.
