Cocktail shaker (general)
Cocktail shakers, often simply called 'shakers', are mixing tools for preparing cocktails. The individual cocktail ingredients are combined and at the same time cooled down due to vigorous shaking with ice. Cocktails are usually shaken for 10 to 20 seconds. When ingredients that are difficult to mix such as cream, egg yolk or egg white are used, the shaking may take longer to completely combine the ingredients. Also, techniques like dry-shaking come into play.
In addition to numerous different filling quantities, materials and colors, there are also four fundamentally different types of cocktail shakers:
Three piece cocktail shaker / cobbler shaker
Two piece cocktail shaker / 'Parisian' or 'French Style Shaker'
The choice for the right shaker depends above all on personal preference and partly on the intended purpose.
