Two-piece shaker- Parisian / French style shaker

Two-piece cocktail shakers are also known as 'Parisienne' or 'French Style Shakers'. They consist of two parts of different sizes - a conically shaped cup and the corresponding lid, which is oftentimes curved. Usually, these shakers are made entirely of stainless steel. Since the shaker parts have to be pushed far into each other when in use, powder- or vinyl-coated versions are not practical and therefore not available. However, some shakers are anodized to give them a different color.

Look-wise, the French Style Shaker is reminiscent of a Cobbler Shaker and can be considered as its predecessor. Unlike the three-piece design, French style shakers do not have a built-in strainer and thus, require a separate bar strainer for straining.

Common models have a capacity from 500 to 700 ml. Also, shakers with up to 900 ml are still widespread. Occasionally versions with a capacity of up to 2 liters are offered, but remain clearly exotic.

When working with a French Style Shaker, it is important to pay attention to the filling level! If the shaker is filled too much, the liquid may be spill when putting the two pieces together. This is why some bartenders fill the curved top part of the shaker first rather than the base, making it easier to open after shaking.
