Hurricane glass

The hurricane glass is a particularly prominent cocktail glass and, with its unique shape, is one of the so-called fancy glasses. It is a comparatively large glass with a volume between 44 to 70 cl and is characterized by its bulbous, curved tulip shape. In addition, Hurricane glasses have a relatively short stem, which is more for decorative purposes than it is for actually holding the glass.

The English name Hurricane refers to the Hurricane cocktail. On the other hand, it is an allusion to kerosene lamps, which are also called 'hurricane lamps'. The shape of the hurricane glass is very similar to the curved shape of the glass tubes from such lamps.

Hurricane glasses are used in particular for coladas, batidas and other 'tropical' fancy drinks including, for example, the Singapore Sling or Planter’s Punch. In addition to a significant volume for large cocktails with lots of ice, Hurricane glasses also offer space for expansive cocktail garnishes in the form of large fruit wedges and other colorful cocktail decorations.
