Martini glass

Martini glasses are a special form of the classic cocktail bowl (also cocktail glass).
Like the cocktail bowl, the martini glass is a stemmed glass, and both are also available with the same volumes. The difference, apart from the conical shape of the martini glass, is mainly in the details: for example, the wide rim of the glass is not tapered towards the top, as is the case with the cocktail bowl.

The eponymous Martini is a classic short drink made from gin and dry vermouth; it is garnished with either a lemon zest or the iconic olive. The tapered shape of the martini glass prevents the drink's ingredients from separating from one another; they also optimally support a toothpick or fruit skewer with olive(s) standing in the glass, which would protrude toward the side of the glass in a shallower cocktail bowl. As with cocktail bowls or wine glasses, the stem serves to keep the drink from warming up due to body heat.

Apart from martinis, this cocktail glass is also used for many other short drink cocktails, such as the Manhattan or Brooklyn. As a rule, these are cocktails without ice, which are previously mixed with ice in a shaker or mixing glass. Often the glasses are therefore pre-chilled.
